the liebster award

Slightly different kind of post today – Lauren from Totally Typically nominated me for a Liebster award a little while ago and I’m sorry it’s taken me this long to write down all my answers! If you’ve not heard of the Liebster award, it’s a blog ‘tag’ – I’ve listed the rules below. It’s a nice way to spread a little love round the blogosphere, especially those of us who are new to the game!

Rules:

  • Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you by linking back to them
  • Share eleven random facts about yourself
  • Answer the eleven questions that were given to you by the blogger who nominated you
  • Nominate eleven blogs that you think are deserving of the award (they must have fewer than 200 followers)
  • Give the nominees eleven questions of your own to answer
  • Let the bloggers know that you’ve nominated them and leave a link back to your nomination post
  • You can’t nominate the person who nominated you.
Without further ado…

11 random facts:

  1.  I’m a big fan of 50s and 60s rock n’roll (listening to Reet Petite by Jackie Wilson as I write this)
  2.  I’ve performed in 12 pantomimes in the last 11 years
  3.  My favourite smell in the world is eucalyptus leaves.
  4.  When I was little I wanted to be an air hostess.
  5.  I grew up with the ABBA Gold CD on repeat in the car and consequently I know pretty much all the words to all of their songs.
  6.  I’d like to live in Australia at some point.
  7.  My favourite TV show was How I Met Your Mother until they ruined the last season
  8.  I drink (alcohol) veeeerrrrryyyy slowly, much to the amusement of my friends. I just don’t like the taste of it that much!
  9.  At the moment I have no idea what I want to do with my life after university.
  10.  I know how to play a lot of card games; I’d like to learn how to play bridge at some point.
  11.  I’m happiest when sitting in the sunshine.

Lauren’s questions:

1. Why do you blog about your chosen topic?

Well, as most blogs start out, I was really bored during the Easter holidays… 😛
It sort of began as a way to write down family recipes so that I could access them during university term-time, and also as a bit of a creative outlet. If it’s not obvious, I really like to bake and it’s something that I’ve been doing for as long as I can remember. Writing the blog makes me push myself with my baking and try new things (which can only be good, right?) and it’s also a nice way to document what’s going on in my world as well as what I’m cooking.

2. What’s a typical day like for you?

At the moment we’re still on ‘summer’ holidays and I’m no longer working so it’s not really that representative, but I’m spending my days getting up fairly early, reading blogs, baking, sewing (making cushion covers at the moment), attempting to pack up my stuff for 2nd year and meeting up with friends where possible.

3. What’s something we didn’t know about you?

I used to play the violin, and got to Grade 2 (hell yeah!)

4. Do you have any pets?

Yes, two cats called James and Nervy, who’ve been making cameos in a few of my recent posts. Nervy is my cat, short for Minerva because when we got them 12 years ago I was a big Harry Potter fan and he sort of looks like the cat that Professor McGonagall turns into.

5. What do you do in your free time?

I like to bake (understatement of the year). At uni (and during my years at school, too) I’ve been quite involved in drama, joining PantoSoc as well as my hall’s drama group. I’m going to continue that this year but on the production side of things rather than acting, which I’m looking forward to as most of my housemates are also involved!

6. Do you read much? If so, what’s your favourite book?

Yes and no. If I start a book, it’s usually all-consuming and I’ll finish it in around 24 hours – which sadly didn’t really compute with working full-time this summer. I’ve got a massive pile of books next to my bed which I’ve been meaning to start so I guess they’ll just have to come with me to uni, and hopefully I can get back into reading. As for a favourite book, there’s no way I can choose.

7. Where’s the most interesting place you’ve been?

China. We went a few years ago, taking in Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an (where the terracotta army are), the section of the Great Wall at Jinshanling, Yangshuo, and up into the mountains of Ping An as part of a group tour. It was just amazing, so different to the UK!

8. Are you a good cook?

After a year of being self-catered, I can cook fairly basic things like spag bol, risotto, stir fry etc. but no, I wouldn’t say I’m a particularly good cook. I can follow a recipe no problem, but I lack the bravery to make something up as I go along which all the good cooks I know seem to do!

9. What’s your favourite food?

I’m a big fan of Asian food  – I’m thinking dim sum, sushi, Wagamama’s… My all-time favourite thing has got to be the Wagamama’s white chocolate and ginger cheesecake.

10. Do you hope to have achieved anything in particular by the end of 2014?

  • to still be blogging!
  • to have started tap and ballet lessons again

11. What is your favourite colour and why?

Raspberry red. I don’t really know why, it’s the colour of my room at home and I have a lot of clothes in that colour!

Nominees:

The majority of people I know online have done this already, so I’m a bit far off 11, oh well!

I’m going to nominate my housemates: Rachel at JammyScribbler and Alice at AppleTreeAlice.
And if anybody else fancies it, please give it a go!

My questions:

  1.  What’s your favourite song at the moment?
  2.  Who would play you in a movie of your life?
  3.  What’s your favourite TV show?
  4.  What’s your earliest memory?
  5.  What’s your most treasured possession?
  6.  Your favourite (main) character from Friends?
  7.  What is your signature dish?
  8.  What are your hopes for the next 12 months?
  9.  Your favourite word?
  10.  What do you think is the best accent?
  11.  If you could live in any other era other than right now, when/where would you pick?
